Apple Data Recovery

MacBook Data Recovery

Your MacBook has stopped working at the worst possible moment. Years of work, photos, projects, passwords, emails: all stored on a device that now shows no signs of life. We understand. And we also know that, in many cases, that data is not as lost as it seems.

Why MacBook data recovery is different from other computers

MacBooks made since 2018 have no removable hard drive and no standard-format SSD. The storage memory is soldered directly to the logic board, in NAND chips that are part of the machine’s integrated circuitry. That means physically taking the drive out and reading it in another computer — the classic recovery method — is not possible.

Add encryption to that. Models with the T2 chip (Intel, 2018–2020) and all Apple Silicon models encrypt data at hardware level. The encryption key is tied to the machine’s own security chip. If the board fails, accessing that data requires specialist technical work: component-level diagnosis and microsoldering, so that the board works well enough again to read the data.

That is exactly what we do.

Cases we handle regularly

Liquid damage. Water or coffee that got in through the keyboard reached the board and caused short circuits in critical components. The MacBook switched itself off, or simply never started again. This is the most common scenario we see. The key point: do not try to turn it on again if you have not already done so.

Logic board failure. The machine dies suddenly for no obvious reason — it starts but never reaches the system, shows a flashing folder, or gives no sign of life at all. It may be a fault in one specific component (the charging circuit, a voltage regulator, the firmware chip) without the data having suffered any damage.

Progressive corrosion. The MacBook spent time near moisture and the board developed corrosion on the traces or under the BGA chips. Sometimes the machine works intermittently for weeks before it stops starting for good.

Failure to start after an update. Some cases of a Mac stuck after a macOS update involve the board, not the operating system. If the update was interrupted or startup failed at a particular point, the problem may be recoverable without losing data.

What data can be recovered

We work to recover any data stored on the MacBook’s internal drive: documents, folders, creative app projects (Final Cut, Logic Pro, Adobe), databases, email set up in a local client, photos, videos, source code, and password files from local password managers. If it was on the MacBook’s drive, it is within the scope of the recovery attempt.

What we do not do (and why it matters to know)

We are not a clean-room service for magnetic hard drives. If your case involves an external hard drive, a NAS or a RAID, this is not our service. We specialise in component-level board electronics, which is a different discipline.

Nor do we carry out the functional repair of the MacBook. Once the data is recovered, the device comes back to you in the condition it arrived in — or you can pass it on to iRepairs (our group) for repair if you wish. Our job ends when the data is safe.

And something important: we do not promise success. There are cases where damage to the board affects the storage chips irreversibly. In those cases we tell you clearly, and you only pay the return shipping (approx. €30). No surprises.

What makes Peach different from Apple or a general repair shop

When you take your MacBook to Apple with a board fault, the usual answer is a quote to replace the logic board, which means losing all the data. Apple does not recover data: it repairs or replaces hardware. Its tools are not designed for component-level work.

General data recovery laboratories have a lot of experience with mechanical hard drives and removable SSDs, but modern Apple devices with T2/M1 encryption and soldered NAND are a different technical case. Not all of them have the procedures, the microsoldering equipment or the specific experience with encrypted APFS.

We work exclusively with Apple devices. It is our only focus, and it shows in the diagnosis.

When to contact us

The sooner, the better. Not because data “fades over time” in most cases — flash storage does not work like that — but because the more the machine is handled or switched on after the failure, the harder access can become. If the MacBook has suffered liquid damage, do not turn it on. If you already have, tell us: it is useful information for the diagnosis, not a reason to rule the case out.

Write to us with the exact MacBook model, the year and a short description of what happened. We will give you an initial assessment with no obligation.

The process

How it works

Logic board diagnosis

We analyse component by component with microsoldering and advanced electronic diagnostic equipment. We identify exactly what has failed and whether the data is accessible.

Data extraction analysis

We assess which method is least invasive for the recovery: repairing your own logic board or carrying out a board transplant. We always choose the option that minimises the risk to your data.

Extraction and verification

Once the data is recovered, we check it with you before closing the case. We deliver the files on an external drive or by secure transfer.

Return with a documented diagnosis

We also return your MacBook with the full diagnosis. If we recover nothing, you only pay shipping (approx. €30).

Questions about this service

Yes. Apple Silicon models present additional technical challenges compared with Intel ones, but we have the procedures and equipment needed to work with them. Each case is assessed individually at diagnosis.

No. If the Mac turns on but cannot access the data (drive not recognised, damaged partition, boot error), we can help too. Tell us the exact symptom and we will point you in the right direction.

On the Standard tier, between 7 and 15 days from when we receive the device. If you need the data urgently, the Urgent tier has a 48–72 hour turnaround at an additional cost.

We return it to you with the documented diagnosis. We do not carry out the hardware repair (iRepairs can do that if you wish), but the device comes back in the same condition we received it, or better.
